Alma Atkinson, 95, died May 18, 2009, in Oakley, KS. Alma Marion Atkinson was born on May 11, 1914 at the family farm in the 105 District near Harveyville, Kansas. Her parents were John and Grace Hill. She had four siblings: Howard Hill, Thelma Workman, Lee Hill, and Elsie Grau.
On June 16, 1934, she married Lyle C. Atkinson in Kansas City, MO. They had 3 children: Lila Sue, Nancy Ann and David Gene. She grew up and lived near and in Topeka, KS until moving later to western Kansas, with Lyle and their son David in 1959. Lyle began managing a Co-op. The entire family would call Page City home for many years. Lyle and Alma would celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in Page City. Alma continued to live in Page City until moving to Oakley. She continued to grow and love flowers whether living in an apartment or living with Lila and Ed. Everyone knew she loved being in her garden and growing flowers. Alma was a homemaker, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Alma would be the ever present and loving grandma who would always watch kids, attend school events, and cook meals during harvest. Alma will always be remembered for the special letters and notes she would share with her family and friends.
Surviving family members include her daughter Lila Greene and husband Edward of Oakley, Kansas; daughter, Nancy Schertz and husband Tom of Winona, Kansas; and son David Atkinson and wife Joyce of Scottsdale, Arizona; six grandchildren: Julie Maurath, Cindy Gfeller, Kandy Schertz, Amy Harrison, Jennifer Smith, and Chandler Atkinson; and fourteen great-grandchildren: Adam, Leigh Ann, Michael, Amberly, Brett, Ryan, Garrett, Lacy, Kayla, Alyssa, Colin, Zachary, Hayley, and Kaillee; and five great-great-grandchildren: Brooklyn, Ashton, Brianna, Aleaha, and Tyler.
