Alvina Elizabeth Moos, age 98, of Grinnell, passed away on March 5, 2013 at the Gove County Medical Center LTCF, Quinter, Kansas. She was born on September 22, 1914, to Jacob & Katherina (Wessel) Schlageck on a farm east of Angelus, Kansas.

Alvina married John Peter Moos on October 9, 1934 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Angelus. She and John were married 53 years until his death on October 27, 1987. Together they raised five children on their farm west of Grinnell. Her life revolved around her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved having them come stay on the farm. She loved to embroider beautiful things for her children.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell and the St. Mary's Altar Society. She enjoyed the activities at the Grinnell Senior Citizens Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband John (1987) and one son, LeRoy J. Moos (2012); six sisters: Martha Cox, Ceciia Esslinger, Eleanor Baalmann, Agnes Harrington, Georgina Davis, and Pauline Albers, and one step-brother, Alvin Albers.

Survivors include two sons, Charles (Marjorie) Moos and Dennis (Charla) Moos of Grinnell; two daughters, Denora Holzinger of Moberly, MO, and Darlene (Gerald) Schaffer of Hoxie, and one sister, Dorothy (George) Ladenburger of Oakley.

Alvina had 16 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great grandchildren.

Suggested memorials are to the Immaculate Conception Church or the Grinnell Senior Citizens Center.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 9, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Grinnell. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. A rosary/wake service will be Friday, March 8, 2013 at the church at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
