Bernice Katherine
Hansen
June 7, 1925 – January 9, 2018
Bernice Katherine Struckhoff Hansen was born on June 7, 1925 in Grinnell, Kansas to Aloys and Regina Struckhoff. She was one of 8 children with 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Bernice graduated from Grinnell High School and on August 8, 1945 she was married to Ralph C. Hansen of Grinnell.
Bernice and Ralph were blessed with 10 children: Charlene, Tim, Elaine, Pam, Barbara, Cindy, Terry, Tina, Jeannie and Angie, 29 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.
Bernice was a loving wife, meticulous homemaker and amazing mother. She enjoyed everything about life and especially loved extended visits to her children's homes and seeing her grandchildren, shopping, attending sporting events, sewing, dancing, singing, playing bridge with her friends, reading, golf, and attending community events. She was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Altar Society, the D of I, and VFW Auxiliary.
At the age of 92, Bernice could still out shop her daughters, except maybe Jeannie. She enjoyed boat rides on Johnson Lake, playing cards at the Senior Center with her lifelong friends and sipping on a toddy now and then. She drove herself to church, the Senior Center and community events … unless she lost her car …usually quickly found parked outside the Senior Center where she left it and had caught a ride.
She was devoted to her faith and the Greatest Inspiration to her family and all who knew her.
Survivors include her sons: Tim (Cheryl) Hansen of Oakley and Terry (Missy) Hansen of Middleburg, FL; daughters: Charlene Baalman of Wichita, Pam (Scott) Wilson of Stockton, Cindy (Mike) Kriley of Stockton, Tina (John) Muir of Johnson Lake, NE, Jeannie (Joe) Rehmer of Grinnell, and Angie (Ralph) Luca of San Antonio, TX; brother, Kenneth Struckhoff of Grinnell, sister, Rita Hitt of Pratt: 29 Grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and a great-great granddaughter.
Preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, parents, A.A. and Reginia Struckhoff, daughters: Elaine Selenke and Barbara Schiltz, granddaughter, Lindsey Schiltz, son-in-law, Keith Baalman, brothers: Charles, Raymond, and Fred Struckhoff; and sisters, Alfreda Ostmeyer and Sister Kenneth Struckhoff.
