Beulah May Kelly was born July 23, 1922 in a little rock house 4 miles west, 1 south, and ¼ west of Orion, Gove County. Her parents were Daniel and Mary (Banks) Kelly and she had one sister, Alice. Beulah attended a country school, then went to Grinnell High, where she graduated in 1940.
Beulah married Walter Dohm August 14, 1940 in the Lutheran Parsonage at Scott City. They lived south of Grinnell where they farmed and raised their family until 1991 when they moved into Grinnell. They were blessed with six children: Donna, Delilah, Darryl, Dennis, Deanna and Della.
Beulah's church, Sunday school, and church activities, and fellow Christians have been an important part of her life. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. She especially loved to get family and friends together. Beulah and Walter were hosts or attendees at many extended family reunions. They also attended and participated in many school and 4-H activities of their children and grandchildren. Beulah was an active 4-H leader when her children were younger.
Beulah always had a beautiful yard with lots of flowers and also vegetables. Other activities included sewing, crochet, and painting. Beulah made many garments for herself and her family. She learned to paint as a senior when she joined a painting group at the Grinnell Senior Center. Her many beautiful paintings grace the walls of her family. After Walter's death in 1999 Beulah started going to the senior center to exercise and have a little social time several mornings each week.
Beulah and Walter traveled to visit family and friends and to see the sights. They drove through much of the United States and some of Canada. They also enjoyed camping trips with the Hackberry Hoppers camping group.
Beulah entered her eternal home Saturday, July 19, 2014 from the Gove County Long Term Care, Quinter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Walter, sister Alice Engelhardt, grandson David Beougher, and sons-in-law Dennis Beamer and Walker Harris.
