Obituary

Baldasor "Bill" Heier was born on December 3, 1921 on a family farm in Gove County to Bernard and Julianna (Kuntz) Heier (Bernard later married Margaret Zerr). He passed away May 13, 2014 at the Gove County Medical Center, Quinter.

Bill attended school in Gove County and was a US Army veteran. He married Josephine "Jo" Bollig on August 26, 1947 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Peter. They farmed south of Page City and provided rainfall reports to radio stations and other news media for many years. Bill was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the St. Joseph's Building Committee and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Other community interests included serving on the Page City School Board, the Mingo Coop Board and being a lifetime member of the Grinnell VFW. Along with his wife Jo, he enjoyed attending ball games and school activities of his daughters and grandsons. In his retirement years he became a toy maker, crafting numerous trucks, trailers, fences; just about anything from a piece of wood.

Bill was preceded in death by his wife Jo Heier, parents, 5 brothers: Augustine, Frank, Alfred, Edwin and Wilmer, 2 sisters: Margaret Heier and Antonia Weber and half-brother Wilmer Nicholas Heier.

Survivors include – three daughters, Judy Conway and husband Don of Dodge City, Norma Zerr and husband Ralph of Park, Dorothy Latham and husband Bryan of Winona, - 6 grandsons, Dexter Zerr and friend Mary of Park, Douglas Zerr and fiancé Kendra of Olathe, Dustin Latham and wife Tina of Winona, Shaun Conway and wife Amy of Wichita, Travis Latham and wife Stacey of Winona, Daryl Zerr and wife Heather of Grainfield, 8 great grandchildren, sister Lena Zerr of Grainfield, half-brothers Felix Heier of Wakeeney and Tom Heier of Oakley, and half-sister Tina Bockwinkel of Oakley.

Bill will be greatly missed, but lovingly remembered by his family and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley with Fr. Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment followed in St. Joseph Cemetery with military honors by Wheatland V.F.W. Post 2864, Grinnell. Visitation: Thursday, May 15 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, with rosary/wake service at 7:00 p.m. Memorials to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, St. Joseph School, and the Gove County Medical Center may be sent to the funeral home, P.O.
