"Del" Thrasher

Cordella May "Del" Thrasher, age 99, of Oakley, passed away on August 1, 2020 at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley. Del was born May 9, 1921 on a farm near Glasco, in Cloud County, KS to Cora (Luckinbill) and Oren Rogers. She was the 7
th
child.
She attended country school and high school at Glasco. Del loved her horses and dogs. When she was little, she rode her horse Trixie to school every day to a country school, from 1
st
grade to 6
th
grade. On December 24, 1939, she married Roy P. Thrasher in Hill City, KS. To this union three children were born: Brenda Jean, Thomas Edward, and Terry Lee. Their first home was in Glasco where Roy was employed by the natural gas pipeline. In March, 1946, they moved to a farm near Page City where they lived until October, 1982; when Roy and Del moved to Oakley.
Del loved to go to the Sun Shine Club there in Page City. She loved her music. She played the radio all day long as she worked around the house. She loved to bake and paint, and was a great artist and enjoyed making quilts. Del made a quilt for everyone in the family, including her nine grandchildren. She was member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary, Post 2811, and worked on quilts that were sold by the Auxiliary for Christmas. She also baked many pies for funeral dinners for the last 20 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roy, two brothers: George H. Rogers and "Onie" Rogers, four sisters: Alma Williams, Mary Jones, Nellie Tubeck and Clara Brown, and son-in-law, Darryl Cooper.
Survivors include her daughter, Brenda Schertz Cooper of Oakley, her sons: Tom Thrasher and Terry Thrasher, both of Oakley, 9 grandchildren: Greg Cooper and wife Lynda and Darin Cooper and wife Beverly, all of California, Kim Schertz and wife Cindy of Phoenix, AZ, Tina Matthews and husband Robert of North Carolina, Traci (Thrasher) Heiman and husband Chris of Garden City, Travis Thrasher of Oakley, Melissa Thrasher of Santa Monica, CA, Mandy (Thrasher) Wilcox and husband David of Millenburg, Oregon, and Monica Thrasher of Ft. Collins, CO; 14 great grandchildren: Austin Cooper, Quinn Cooper, and Brock Cooper, all of Walnut, CA, Davis Cooper and Elliot Cooper of Pasadena, CA, Kimberly Schertz of Phoenix, AZ; stepdaughter, Courtney Cohen of AZ, Brandi Bentley and husband Robert of VA, Tyler Burrows of OK, Ryan Heiman and Claire Heiman of Garden City, Taryn Greenlee (Lane) of Holcomb, and Allison Calderon (Anthony) of Lakin, and Corey Thrasher of Oakley; 4 great-great grandchildren: Robert James Bentley, III, Kynlee Burrows, Damon Greenlee, and Danica Greenlee, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 7, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley, with Pastor Bob Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the Monument Township Cemetery. Visitation: 5 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2020 at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to V.F.W. Post 2811 Ladies Auxiliary and the Logan County Health Department and sent in care of Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, P.O. Box 221, Oakley, KS 67748.
