Obituary

Edna Helen Rueschhoff Schippers, Oakley, Kansas, passed away on Monday, February 3, 2014, at the Logan County Hospital, Oakley, Kansas, at the age of 90.

Edna was born in Hoxie, Kansas, on July 30, 1923, to Roy and Ora Mae (Parker) Latham. She was united in marriage to David B. Rueschhoff on April 8, 1942, in Sequin, Kansas. She attended school at Hoxie, Kansas. Shortly after their marriage, Dave was drafted into the Army. She worked in Kansas City as a secretary while Dave was in the Army. After Dave's Army tour, they farmed by Grinnell, Kansas, until their retirement. Dave and Edna lived in Campus, Kansas, until 1972 when they moved to the family farm. When they retired in 1993, they moved to Grinnell, Kansas, and enjoyed their retirement years. She was a homemaker and farm wife. During her life, Edna belonged to the W.I.O.N. Club, 4-H Leader, Golden Rod Club, Gove County Extension Unit and "The Sing-A-Long Ladies." At the age of 80, she married Herman Schippers and moved to Oakley, Kansas.

Edna was a "people" person and never met a stranger. She had friends of all ages and from all walks of life. She will be remembered by her lovely smile, sense of humor and positive attitude. Words cannot describe what a wonderful person she was. Edna touched everyone's heart. She will be missed.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Herman Schippers (2007) and Dave Rueschhoff, (1998), parents Roy and Ora Mae Latham; brother Howard (Huck) Latham, sisters, Nina (Ty) Stone and Lorraine Clark; brothers-in-law, Ken Clark and Henry Grand; and sons-in-law, Bud Crothers and Mark Robben; step-daughter, Donna Jennings and husband, Dave; step-grandson, Jeff Jennings; step-granddaughter, Gina Jennings; and step-son, Jim Schippers.

Edna is survived by her daughters, Kathy Crothers, Fayetteville, Arkansas; Barb Broeckelman and husband, Lee, Grinnell, Kansas, and Carolyn Robben, Oakley, Kansas. Sister, Genevie Grand of Sacramento, California. Grandchildren: Zach Broeckleman and wife Breanna, Oakley, Kansas; Levi Broeckelman and wife, Laura, Waukomis, Oklahoma; Summer Harris and husband, Cooper, Hays, Kansas; Trevor Robben, Yakima, Washington; and Eric Robben, Oakley, Kansas; and 5 great-grandchildren. Step-children: Tim Schippers and wife, Pat; Patricia Wilcox and husband, Mike; Kathy Losey and husband, David; Jerry Schippers and wife, Lois; Terry (Shug) Schippers and wife, Jacque; 11 step-grandchildren and 11 great step-grandchildren.

The funeral mass was Thursday, February 6, 2014, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, Oakley, Kansas, with Fr. Don Pfannenstiel officiating. Interment was at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Grinnell, Kansas. Visitation was Wednesday, February 5, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home. Wake service was at 7:30 pm.
