Elaine Louise (Jennings) Smith, age 94, passed away on August 8, 2022, at the Logan County Senior Living Nursing
Home in Oakley. She was born to Henry & Angeline Jennings on September 20, 1927. Elaine was born
and raised in Colby, Kansas. After graduating from Colby High School in 1945, Elaine met the love of her
life while working at Lois' Drug Store in Colby. Don and Elaine married on August 8, 1946, in Colby and
were blessed with one child, Robert "Bruce" Smith, on April 2, 1955.
In her younger years, Elaine enjoyed off-road jeep adventures, motorcycle rides, and ship cruises. She
enjoyed working with the public as a telephone operator, a receptionist, and retired from the Oakley
Public Library in the early 2000's.
Elaine had acquired some very meaningful relationships during her
stay at the home and enjoyed visits from her family and friends.
She was pr
eceded in death by her parents, Henry & Angeline Jennings, her husband Donald Smith,
her son Bruce Smith, brother Lewis (Alma) Jennings, sisters: Opal (Sam) Unruh and Marilyn Boyer, and brother-in-law, Bob Randle.
Elaine is survived by her brother-in-law, Stan (Virginia) Smith of Oakley, sister-in-law, Phyllis Randle of Wichita, and nieces and nephews.
Elaine will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Cremation was chosen. A memorial service was held in her honor on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at the Oakley Cemetery with Pastor Bob Kelly officiating.
