Eleanor P. Meitl, age 94, of Oakley, passed away on May 7, 2015 at the Villa Maria Nursing Home, Mulvane, Kansas.
She was born December 1, 1920 in Leoville, KS to John and Katherine (Zimmerman) Kruse. She married Philip G. Meitl on October 26, 1942 in Leoville. She was a homemaker.
Preceded in death by her parents, John and Katherine, husband Phil (1989), son Robert, brothers: Msgr. Clement Kruse, Marlin Kruse, Wilbur Kruse, Emanuel "Bud" Kruse, and Leander "Lee" Kruse, and a sister Mildred Robben.
Survivors include her sons: John (Claire) of Ellicott City, MD, Jim (Susan Mayfield) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Bill (Pam) of Mulvane, and Alan (Traci Bolle) of St. Louis, MO; daughters: Mary (Dick) Robison of Overland Park, Phyllis (Dan) Watkins of Lawrence, Alice (Gary) Schafersman of Drexel, MO, and Mitzy (Philip) Groves of Mission Hills; 22 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; brothers: Ervin Kruse of Stockton, CA, Alvin Kruse of Broken Arrow, OK, Paul Kruse of Peru, NE, and Larry Kruse of Grinnell; and a sister Alfreda Stephens of Grinnell.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2015 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley with concelebrants Fr. Donald Pfannenstiel and Fr. Jim Grennan officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. Sunday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, with rosary/wake service at 7:30 p.m.

Eleanor P. Meitl, daughter of John and Katherine (Zimmerman) Kruse, was born December 1, 1920, in Leoville, KS and passed away on May 7, 2015. at the age of 94. Eleanor grew up in rural Leoville, KS and attended the schools there. After graduation from high school in 1938, Eleanor worked in and around Leoville and worked briefly for a clothing store in Norton, KS. On October 26, 1942, she married Philip G. Meitl also from Leoville. After Phil returned from WWII,
they made their home in McDonald, KS in 1946 before moving to Oakley, KS in 1948.
Phil and Eleanor were the parents of nine children. As a homemaker, Eleanor was an active member of St. Joseph Parish in Oakley and a member of the St. Joseph Altar Society and the St. Catherine's Circle of the D. of I. In addition to supporting her husband's career with Standard Oil Co., she was an accomplished seamstress throughout her
adult life making or altering clothing for her family and friends. For many years, she did alterations for clothing stores in Oakley.
After Phil's death in 1989, Eleanor lived in the family home and later in the Senior Community Apartments at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley. She moved to Maria Court/Villa Maria in Mulvane, KS in July, 2008.
Survivors include 8 children, Mary ( Dick) Robison, Lawrence, KS; John (Claire) Meitl, Ellicott City, MD; Jim Meitl (Susan Mayfield) Calgary, AB, Canada; Phyllis (Dan) Watkins, Lawrence, KS; Alice (Gary) Schafersman, Drexel, MO; Bill (Pam) Meitl, Mulvane, KS; Janet (Philip) Groves, Prairie Village, KS; Alan Meitl (Traci Bolle) St. Louis, MO.
Eleanor is also survived by 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Ervin, Alvin, Paul and Larry and a sister, Alfreda Stephens. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Phil; son, Robert; five brothers: Msgr. Clement Kruse, Marlin, Wilbur, Bud and Lee; and a sister, Mildred Robben.
