Elton Gay Rohrbough, age 90, of Oakley, was called up yonder on March 31, 2013 to help gather some strays. Elton and his favorite horse were always there to lend a helping hand. He passed away at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Inman, Kansas.
He was born on August 5, 1922 at home near Elkader in Logan County (the second of four children) to Gay Edward and Lila May (Boatman) Rohrbough. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II. He married Mary Lee Sperling on December 23, 1944 in Scott City, Kansas and they made their home in and around Elkader. He was a farmer and rancher and held several jobs, working as a hired hand, and was a volunteer firefighter. To this union, five children were born: Frankie, Sharon, Johnny, Tami, and Lori.
On September 9, 1968, Elton married Maxine Velma Ludolph in Scott City. They made their home south of Oakley. He was a faithful husband to Velma and a loving loyal father and grandfather. He was a long time member of the Oakley Wesleyan Church. They were happily married for 40 years; they enjoyed living on the farm, tending the animals and a huge garden. They enjoyed family gatherings, riding horses, going to dances, and spending time with all their grandchildren.
Elton was preceded in death by his parents Gay and Lila, first wife Mary Lee, second wife Velma, brothers Dale Rohrbough and Earl Rohrbough, a sister Vera Davis, and step daughter Vera McGuire.
Survivors: her sons, Frankie (Carol) Rohrbough of Altamont, KS, Johnny (Berneta) Rohrbough of Pleasant Dale, NE, daughters: Sharon Beichle (Larry) of Salina, KS, Tami Preston (Jay) of Crete, NE, Lori Blair (fiancée Thad Cook) of Wichita, KS, step daughter Doris Brown (Duane) of Colby, KS, step son Edward Ludolph (Lorena) of Oakley, KS, and loving stepdaughter Laura Nell Mora (Dave) of Denver, CO; 21 grandchildren, many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and many step-great grandchildren and step great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 5 at the Oakley Wesleyan Church with Pastor Clyde Graham officiating. Interment will be in the Hoxie Cemetery. Visitation: 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley.
