Obituary

Fredonia Alberta "Fritz" Fischer, age 85, passed away on January 22, 2013 at the Garden Valley Retirement Village in Garden City, Kansas. Fritz was born on October 16, 1927 in Gove County to Albert Sherman Wilson and Belle Alberta Miller. She grew up with her younger sister Eula on a farm near Oakley. Although very young, she recalled the terrible period known as the "dirty thirties". Fritz met her future husband, Fred Fischer, while attending classes in Oakley High School. After she graduated from high school in 1945, she attended school at Brown-Mackie College in Salina, KS. The school specialized in secretarial and bookkeeping training. A few years after Fred got out of the Marine Corps, they married on March 7, 1948 in Oakley.

They moved to Scottsbluff, NE where Fred worked for J.C. Penney and she gave birth to her first two sons, Ronald and Roger. A few years later, they moved to Lusk, WY where she continued to raise her sons and help Fred with his job. When she got pregnant with Greg, she wanted to have him born in Scottsbluff as well. They made the trip back to Scottsbluff, Greg was born, and they returned to Lusk. After a few years they moved back to Oakley, where she and Fred opened two businesses, the Curiosity Shop His and Hers. She managed the "Hers" side and performed all the bookkeeping for both businesses. She loved gardening and had four separate gardens at their home. She would plant all sorts of flowers and bulbs.

In 1986 they moved to Garden City where they found jobs; she managed the Hallmark Cards and Gifts Store until she retired. Fred was the department manager of clothing at the J.C. Penney Store until his retirement. She liked to volunteer at the Garden City Community College as well as St. Catherine's Hospital.

Fritz is survived by her sons Ron (Lynn) Fischer of Billings, MT and Greg (Shirley) Fischer of Stafford, VA; a sister Eula Baxter of Hays, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brother-in-law Joe Fischer of Noel, MO, sisters-in-law Roberta Logan of Las Cruces, NM, Genevieve Scully of Corrales, NM, and Lois Simonton of Garden City.

Fritz was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Belle, her husband Fred (2007), her son Roger (2011), and a granddaughter Jessica Fisher (1995).

Fritz was a friend to all who knew or met her, she loved her family, and will be dearly missed by all of her family and many friends.
