Glen Carl Davis, age 92, of Oakley, passed away on August 20, 2016 at the Logan County Hospital from complications following a fall in his home in July.
He was born April 29, 1924 in Stockton, California to Carl Jacob Davis and Mary Aetna (Higgins) Davis. He graduated from Oakley High School in 1941, and served in the U.S. Navy CB's in WWII. Glen was a retired letter carrier, a retired field agent for the Kansas Department of Revenue, and a farmer.
Glen was a member of the Oakley United Methodist Church, V.F.W. Post 2981, American Legion, I.O.O.F. (Independent Order of Odd Fellows) and the National Association of Letter Carriers. Along with his wife Dorothy, he enjoyed square dancing, gardening, camping, fishing, boating, and was a journeyman plasterer. He also enjoyed swimming, playing volleyball, and was especially interested in the school activities of his children and grandchildren.
On September 15, 1946 he married Dorothy Jeanette Rhea in Oakley. She survives. Other survivors include his daughter Sheryl Giessel, and husband Tom of Larned, KS; and seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Ange Davis of Chandler, AZ, Jim and Heidi Davis, Avery and Adam of Benson, MN; John Davis and daughter Graci of Norton, KS; Jake Davis of Liberal, KS; Andrew Giessel and Darci Hanna, Sylvia and Naomi of Somerville, MA; Kate Giessel of Brooklyn, NY; and Ann and Diego Bonsignore of Mission, KS.
He was pre-deceased by his parents, Carl and Aetna; his brother Gene in 2009; his son Donnie in 1955; and his son Rodney in 2014.
Glen will be greatly missed, but lovingly remembered, by his family and many friends.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday August 26, 2016 at 10:30 AM at the United Methodist Church in Oakley, with Pastor Sheryl Johnson officiating. Burial will follow with full military honors provided by the Oakley V.F.W. Post 2981 at the Oakley Cemetery.
