Harvey Buford Mather, age 97, of Senior Campus I in Blackwood, New Jersey, passed away on December 6, 2017.
Harvey was born and raised in Kansas, and he always spoke lovingly of his family roots there. He was a former member of St. Faith Episcopal Church in Havertown, Pennsylvania and a member of the Senior I Residents Association.
Harvey "Buford" was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of WWII where he served as a Boatswain 2nd Class. He served in the Civilian Conversation Corps during the depression. He was a tug boat captain for Gulf Oil/Chevron Corporation before retiring. Buford enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, gardening, sports, especially football, country music and watching old time movies, specifically westerns.
Buford was the husband of the late Lois Mather (nee Thomas). He was the father of Terry Kaviani (Ali), Pat Watras (Bill), Allison Rhodes (Harry), and Carolyn Sass ( Raymond). He was the brother of Ruth Hayes, Wilma Taylor, Evelyn Fitzroy, and Marjorie Wilson. Harvey was predeceased by his siblings: Lee Mather, Richard Mather, Wesley Mather, Leslie Mather, Harold Mather, Gerald Mather and Carol Wilson. He was the grandfather of 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Harvey "Buford" was the son of the late Jacob and Susie Mather.
Graveside service and inurnment will be at 3:00 p.m., Friday, May 25, 2018 at the Oakley Cemetery with Pastor Sheryl Johnson, officiating. Services will be conducted by Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, 217 Freeman Ave., Oakley, KS.
