Hazel K. Daniels, age 83, of Oakley, died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley. She was born on May 27, 1931 in Thomas County to John Theodore and Clara Belle (Lockard) Rhea. Hazel married Johnny Dean Daniels on November 13, 1948 in Colby. To this union, they had four children.
Johnny and Hazel owned and operated The Palace Theatre for 24 years where she made the "best" popcorn in town. She also spent a lifetime working in health care. She helped get Parkside Manor (Logan County Manor) up and running in 1965. For a short time she left Parkside to work for Dr. Hausheer in his clinic. She later went back to Parkside and was the administrator for 7 years. She worked in the same building under the names of Oakley Manor and the Logan County Manor doing housekeeping, maintenance and being a CNA. She retired 2 months ago at the age of 83.
Hazel loved and enjoyed spending time with her husband of 66 years, her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, watching the squirrels play, riding horses, woodworking, reading, watching Gunsmoke and other westerns, eating ice cream, going to Wal-Mart and working to make that one thing she loved the most -- money.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny of Oakley, her children: Roger Daniels of Henderson, Nevada, Ken Daniels, Katie Harnish and Carol Boyd (Steve), all of Oakley, nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and a great, great grandson; sisters: Helen Ostmeyer, Mildred Gilkerson, and Dorothy Davis, all of Oakley, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara, a brother, Merrill Rhea, and a sister, Virginia Reed, and a grandson, Justin Daniels.
Hazel made an impact in so many lives and will be truly missed by all. The Celebration of Life will be Friday, March 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Logan County Manor, Oakley.
