Obituary

Helen M. Beougher, 99, Garden City (formerly of Grinnell) died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at St. Catherine Hospital, Garden City. She was born November 18, 1915 in Thomas County to Elton and Lela (Myers) Crabb. She married Edward Mendell Beougher on June 7, 1942 in Colby and was a homemaker.

Preceded in death by her husband Edward (1967), brothers: Glenn and Lowell Crabb, infant brothers: Clarence and Floyd Crabb, and sisters; Inez Johnson and Elaine Crabb.

Survivors: son Edward Bouker (Marsha) of Hays, daughter Beth Moser (Monte) of Garden City, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley with interment in Grinnell Township Cemetery. Visitation: 5:00 to 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home. Helen Crabb Beougher was born November 18, 1915 on the family farm northwest of Colby to Elton D. and Lela Myers Crabb. She attended rural school near the farm and later in Colby, graduating from Colby High School in 1932 at the age of 16. After graduation she went to work for the City of Colby as a switchboard operator where she worked until marrying Edward Mendell Beougher on June 7, 1942. After her marriage she moved to Grinnell where she was a housewife and helped her husband in his law and abstracting practice when needed. After his death in 1967, she continued to manage their farming and business interests. She moved to Oakley in 1999 and then to Garden City in 2011 to be near her daughter.

Helen was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Order of the Eastern Star, and the Senior Center in Grinnell. She was an avid reader and enjoyed bingo, bridge and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Edward, two sisters: Inez Johnson of Oberlin and Elaine Crabb of Colby, two brothers: Glenn Crabb of Colby and Lowell Crabb of Seattle, Washington, two infant brothers: Clarence and Floyd Crabb, and a nephew, Jay Crabb.

Survivors include her children, Edward Bouker and wife Marsha of Hays and Beth Moser and husband Monte of Garden City. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Travis Bouker and wife Bree Bang-Jensen of Arlington, VA, Sarah Bouker of Washington, D.C., Courtney Bayron and husband Sal of Chicago, IL, Megan Moser and husband Brendan Praeger of Manhattan, Carrie Moser and husband Tiaan DeKlerk and Caitlin Moser of Garden City, as well as three great-grand children: Liam Moser-Nichols, Charlotte Bayron, and Lucas DeKlerk, and five nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Grinnell United Methodist Church or organization of the donor's choice.
