Obituary

Joan Mohr, age 95, of Oakley, passed away on Sunday morning, July 13, 2014 at her daughter Lany's home near Campus.

Johanna "Joan" Ursula Mohr was born on October 7, 1918 in Deer Lodge, Montana to John and Mary (Bisonitz) Pozega. She married James A. "Jim" Mohr, Sr. on May 20, 1940 at Deer Lodge, Montana. Joan was a waitress and cook at restaurants and helped Jim with cattle ranching.

Joan grew up in Montana with 10 sisters and two brothers and loved herding sheep. Joan had a wonderful life living most of it in Montana married to a cowboy Jim. She loved the wild flowers and spent many hours picking up little seeds and trinkets and even cotton pods on our way to Texas. Things always fascinated her and you never knew when she was going to stop the car and get out and pick something up that she thought would fit in her crafty thing she was making -- like bird houses or wreaths or the nativities she cut out with her saws clear up to the age of 93. She donated several things to St. Joseph's Church for fundraisers and enjoyed every minute of her life. She sold and gave her creations to people all over the world. She loved to read and listen to positive things and was an inspiration to all the ladies at "Bodyworks," a place where ladies workout.

Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren usually called her "Granny" or "Gram" and they all learned to cheat or I mean play cards from her. They loved what she called elephant ears and she was always busy helping them make something. She was loved by everyone who came into her path and impacted the lives of soooo many. One thing they all loved to do in Montana (up the road from her house) was dig for quartz crystals or snowmobile. She did it all.

When she was 70, she learned how to cross country ski and then went on three wagon trains and one cattle drive. She broke her ankle and still drove a team of horses and surrey with the cast on. If anyone knew her they knew a power house in a 5'1'' 115 lbs. keg of dynamite.

Joan was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley, Grasshoppers Ladies Club, Polaris, Montana, and was involved in the Shady Ladies Red Hats in Colorado, Oakley Red Hats, and the Oakley Garden Club.

Joan went with her daughter Lany on two cruises and also was able to go on a hot air balloon ride with Jeanne and Lany for her 80th birthday. On her 90th birthday, she went for a ride in a helicopter and even got to hold the stick to fly it. There was one thing on her bucket list that she did not get to do--that was to ride on a train in Alaska.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Jim (1987), sons Patrick (2003) and James, Jr. (2014), two brothers, John Pozega and Nick Pozega, and nine sisters: Mary, Kate, Angie, Ann, Cecelia, Amelia, Maggie, Barbara, and Adeline.

Survivors include her daughter Lany (Tom) Sharp of Oakley, Sharon (Victor) Zeller of Richland, WA, 10 grandchildren: Tricia Runkle (Mike), Maggie Rembao (Vic), TJ Sharp (Stacey), Kandi Reeder (Kevin), Shane Mohr (Moran), Bre Fagan (Frank), Shawna Dixon (Joe), Darcey Lodge, Nick Mohr (Angela), Serina Williams (Jahmal), 17 great-grandchildren, her sister Eva Stockmeyer of Whitehall, MT, and daughters-in-law Lonna Mohr of Butte, MT and Judy Mohr of Wisdom, MT.

A memorial mass will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley with Fr. Donald F. Pfannenstiel officiating. There is no visitation. Private inurnment by family will be in Dillon Cemetery, Dillon, MT.

Memorials to the Logan County Senior Citizens Center or Joan Mohr Memorial Fund may be sent to Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, PO Box 221, Oakley, KS 67748.
