Obituary

John Wayne Krug, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025 at the Presbyterian Manor in Salina, Kansas.  Wayne was born in Ransom, KS on June 16, 1940 to John and Marie (Dietz) Krug.

Wayne graduated from Oakley High School in 1958.  After attending the Wichita Business School, he returned home to Oakley to help run the family farm.  On August 16, 1964, Wayne married Lila Gilkerson.  After a brief move to Olympia, Washington, Wayne again returned home to take over the family farm following the passing of his father, John.

Wayne was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church and also served on the USD 274 Oakley School board.  He remained active in agriculture all of his life.  After moving to Salina, KS in 1995, he focused his attention on a new trucking business hauling fuel, however, farming was never far from his mind.  From a very young age Wayne was an avid pen and pencil collector, never passing up an opportunity to pick up a new addition for his collection.

Wayne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lila, three sons:  Robert of Clifton, KS, Michael and wife Laura of Buckeye, AZ, Brian and wife Kelly of Wichita, KS, four grandchildren, two nieces and two nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Marie, brother Ronald Krug, sister Shirley Evans and nephew, Kody Krug.

Wayne will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends.  He was loved by everyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him.

Wayne's family wishes to thank everyone for all their support, assistance and prayers at this time.  The endless amounts of visits, phone calls and gifts have been greatly appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m Saturday, March 15, 2025 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oakley, with Pastor Matthew Koterba officiating.  Interment will follow at the Oakley Cemetery.  Visitation will be on Friday, March 14th, from 5 - 7 p.m. at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home.  Family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

An additional memorial gathering will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Salina, KS on March 22nd at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oakley FFA chapter or the Wayne Krug Memorial Fund and may be sent in care of Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, PO Box 221, Oakley, KS 67748.
