Josephine Lorena "Josie" West, age 93, of Oakley, passed away on February 8, 2014 at her home.
She was born July 13, 1920 in Sheridan County to George and Barbara (Zerr) Heier. She married S. E. West on December 28, 1960 at the Sacred Heart Church in Park.
Josie was a beautician for 65 years. She was a hairdresser for her regular customers as well as residents in local nursing homes and area hospitals. She loved bowling, being an active member of teams in Oakley and Colby for many years, and playing cards and bingo. She was always "on the go", ie. with church activities, family reunions, wedding dances, and gatherings with family and friends.
Josie was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Altar Society, D of I for 70 years, and past member of Sacred Heart Church, Park. She was a 20 years plus volunteer of RSVP, 10 years plus Senior Companion member, and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband S. E. West (1988), a brother Joseph Heier, her sisters Katherine Heier and Johanna Pfeifer, brother-in-law Albert Pfeifer, step daughter-in-law Barbara West, and step grandson Norman West.
Survivors include her brother Phil (Rosella) Heier of Grainfield, sister-in-law Louella Heier of Oakley, stepsons Frank (Judy) West of Muldrow, Oklahoma, Verle West of Monroe, Arkansas, and Bud (Karen) West of Parker, Colorado, 8 step-grandchildren, 20 step-great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2014 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley with Fr. Donald F. Pfannenstiel and Fr. James Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Park. Visitation: Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, with a rosary/wake service at 7:00 p.m.
