Kenneth R. "Kenny" Nickelson, age 77, passed away on May 12, 2013 at the Dignity Care Home in Salina.
He was born October 22, 1935 in Englewood, CO to Reuben and Bernice (Feuerhelm) Nickelson. He graduated from Scott City High School in 1955 and served in the US Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He married Lois Lee Gfeller on November 15, 1963 in Colby.
Kenny and Lois made their home on the farm south of Oakley in Logan County. He worked hard on the farm, raising wheat, milo, and sunflowers for many years. He was often looking for new ways to improve and advance farming practices with crop rotation and farm equipment.
Kenny and Lois lived in Oakley until 1989, when Stan and Brenda moved from Oakley. They moved to the farm and resided there until 2006. When he was diagnosed with cancer, they then moved to Salina to be close to his family and healthcare.
Kenny and Lois owned and operated the bowling alley in Oakley in the 1970's and 1980's. He enjoyed bowling and loved spending time with Stan, Brenda, and the grandkids.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; Reuben and Bernice, and twin brother Keith.
Survivors include his wife Lois and a son Stan (wife Brenda) of Salina, two grandchildren, Destinee Nickelson and Dawson Nickelson of Salina, sister Marlo Wiechman (husband Don) of Scott City, sister-in-law June Nickelson of Hawthorne, CA, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kenny was loved by his family and will be dearly missed by his family and his friends.
Funeral service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 18 at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley. Visitation: Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Interment in the Oakley Cemetery with military honors by the base honor guard, McConnell Air Force Base, Wichita and V.F.W. Post 2981, Oakley.
