She was born on December 14, 1924, in Sheridan County to John Henry and Louise Caroline (Marcotte) Kruse. She attended rural school in Sheridan County at Pleasant Valley, going on to graduate from Grinnell High School in 1942.
Fort Hays State was her next stop, where she earned a one-year emergency teaching certificate, going to teach at the Rural District 60 School south of Grinnell in Gove County. A bout of rheumatic fever put an end to her teaching.
On February 19, 1946, she married David Francis Dickman at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Angelus. They lived most of their lives in the Grinnell and Angelus communities.
A member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell and past member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Angelus, she was involved in Daughters of Isabella and the church's altar society.
She was a community leader for the 4-H club in Angelus and served on the Grinnell Pride Committee and the Grinnell Welcome Committee.
A long-term volunteer for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, she served for a number of years as the coordinator for the Grinnell Senior Center. When she moved to the long-term care unit in Quinter about 10 years ago, she still kept busy, making caps and booties for newborns in the hospital and lap robes for those in the care center.
One of her favorite projects was researching and collecting information on the history of the Kruse family.
She was preceded in death by her parents John and Louise; her husband Dave in 1965; brothers James Kruse and Robert Kruse; grandson Michael Heiman and great-grandson Curtis Dory.
Survivors include her son, Daryl (Arletta) Dickman of Grinnell; four daughters: Diane (Steve) Heiman of Belleville, Kathy (George) Banister of McDonald, Susan (Terry) Cornelius of Wichita, and Stacie (Lonnie) Martin of Topeka; two brothers: John H. Kruse Jr. of Wichita and Beryl Kruse of Nashville, Tennessee; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
