Obituary

Leonard D. Jamison, age 90, of Oakley, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at the Logan County Hospital, Oakley. He was born on November 17, 1923 on a farm near Quinter, Gove County, Kansas to Wilcie and Gretta (Ikenberry) Jamison.

Leonard attended both Quinter Grade and High School and graduated from Quinter High School in 1942.

Leonard was a veteran of WWII, enlisting in the U.S. Navy and entering the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy on July 14, 1944. As a Merchant Marine, Leonard was assigned to several ships in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. He was honorably discharged in June, 1945. Upon returning to Kansas, he worked for the REA for several years and became an aerial applicator crop spraying pilot.

On May 9, 1948, Leonard married Mary Lea Lewallen at her parents' home in Oakley. Leonard was a member of the Church of the Brethren and many sports clubs. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying fishing, hunting and skeet shooting. He won many awards in skeet shooting contests locally and in Las Vegas, Nevada. Leonard and Mary Lea both loved their dogs. Throughout the years, they raised several breeds of dogs, always having one dog that was special.

Leonard was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lea Jamison on February 21, 2007, and brothers Wilford Jamison and Delbert Jamison.

Survivors include his sons Don Jamison of Wichita and Randy Jamison of Denver, CO, daughter Jo Lynn Jamison, and sisters Lois Marie Gibson of Lincoln, NE, Birdene Fahey of Jenks, OK, and Marlene (Robert) Courtney of Baldwin City, KS, many nieces and nephews, and special friends Alex and Mary Dumler of Hoxie, KS.

Cremation was chosen. A graveside memorial service at the Baker Township Cemetery, Quinter is planned on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. with Carl Dumler officiating. Immediately following the graveside service, family will receive friends with food and fellowship and the Quinter Church of The Brethren.
