LeRoy John Moos, age 76, a retired teacher from Grinnell, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at the Logan County Hospital in Oakley.
He was born November 16, 1935, in rural Thomas County to John Peter and Alvina (Schlageck) Moos.
In 1953, he graduated from Grinnell Rural High School. He served in the U.S. Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.
After attending two years of college at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, he began his teaching career at Gove Grade School, and then taught in a one-room school house at Missouri Flats. Attending college during the summers, he completed his Bachelor's degree in education and went on to receive a Master's degree in 1970, also at Greeley.
LeRoy was an elementary school teacher at the Oakley-Monument schools, teaching the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grades and retired in 1996; and then taught at St. Joseph's Catholic School in Oakley for a year. He was working at H&R Block in Colby at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Grinnell, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus, Angelus-Grinnell Council 2773, Oakley Lions Club and the Oakley MoFun Card Club.
Preceding him in death was his father, John Peter Moos.
Survivors include his mother Alvina of LTCF, Quinter; two brothers, Charles (Marj) Moos and Dennis (Charla) Moos, all of Grinnell; two sisters, Denora Holzinger of Moberly, Mo., and Darlene (Gerald) Schaffer of Hoxie; an aunt, Dorothy (George) Ladenburger of Oakley; 16 nieces and nephews, 28 grand-nieces and nephews, and 7 great-grand-nieces and nephews.
LeRoy will be greatly missed by his family, associates, and many friends.
