Obituary

Linda Lee (Boyd) Rohr, 65, of Yukon, Oklahoma, passed away August 6th, 2013 at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Linda was born on November 11th, 1947 in Colby, Kansas to Francis Richard and Doris Darlene (Vaughn) Boyd. She grew up in Monument, Kansas and graduated from Monument High School in 1965. After graduating, she said that she had wanted to attend cosmetology school, but her parents told her that they just couldn't afford it so she worked at Trader's Super Market in Oakley, Kansas. She married Gerald P. Rohr on August 23rd, 1969 and they established their home in Oakley, Kansas. In 1970, they moved three miles northwest of Angelus, Kansas. Shortly after moving to Angelus, Linda became a mother as they welcomed a daughter, Rachell in May of 1971. In July of 1971, the family moved to the family farm south of Grinnell. In October of 1974, they welcomed a son, Randy. In addition to raising Rachell and Randy, Linda worked with Gerald on the family farm where they raised hogs and cattle. In addition to working on the farm, Linda also worked for many years at the Colonial Steakhouse. She would always work nights and weekends while her kids were young so that she could be home with them during the day while Gerald worked on the farm. She was very dedicated to her family and made sure that her children had what they needed before she would do anything for herself. She also made sure that her children continued their education past high school so that they could create a better life for themselves. In 1994, Gerald and Linda moved back to Oakley where Gerald drove a truck for Mitten Trucking and Linda began working at the Northwest Kansas Educational Service Center in Oakley. Linda was very happy to move away from the farm and into town. She was so delighted that she no longer had to travel on those bad dirt roads when it rained or snowed. After she moved to Oakley, and was no longer working every Sunday, she would often have family over for dinner on Sundays because she loved to cook. When she cooked she always made enough food for an army, but she always wanted to be sure there was enough food so no one went away hungry. An inside family joke became do you want a normal portion or a "Linda portion" which was twice as much as she would serve herself!! Her specialties were her "Pigs in a Blanket", Chicken and Noodles, Chocolate Pies and Angel Food Cakes just to name a few.

Unbeknownst to her soon-to-be son-in-law, Linda was also a fine if somewhat sneaky matchmaker that nudged her daughter, at the time a waitress at the Colonial Steakhouse, and a steakhouse cook to date and eventually marry. She was extremely happy when she started *finally* getting grandchildren, both from her daughter and from her son. She loved to spoil her grandkids and go shopping for them when she could. Once they got a little older she would ask them what they wanted her to have baked when they came for a visit or when she went and visit them. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. During the holidays she would cook for days making candy, cookies, and popcorn balls so that she could give them to people as Christmas presents and so her family could enjoy them when they came to her house. She loved to go shopping and search for just the right presents for all of her family. She would ask her grandchildren what they wanted for Christmas and she would do her best to find the exact gift they requested. On Christmas day she would spend hours making a large meal and invited all of her family to come over if they didn't have anywhere else to go.

In 2005, Gerald and Linda moved to Yukon, Oklahoma. Linda loved living in the city and having all of that access to great shopping just minutes from her house. For the last couple of years she was a home health caregiver for the Ferguson family in Oklahoma City. She would go over to their house and help them with all of their daily needs. She became part of their family because she was so caring and trustworthy. She also liked to be a part of a weekly bowling league and go out to dinner with her friends. In addition to bowling, Linda liked gardening, planting flowers and a good cup of coffee. Her daughter-in-law was always amazed by how they could buy the exact same flower plants and Linda's flowers looked like something out of a magazine while her daughter-in-law's struggled to survive.

Linda passed away from complications from multiple myeloma cancer, a cancer of the bone marrow. She had been battling this cancer since 2008 and she never told her family and friends about it. She didn't want anyone to worry about her and she didn't want to be a burden to anyone.

Linda is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; daughter, Rachell (and husband Donovan) Haines of Willis, Texas; son, Randy (and wife Terrell) Rohr of Andover, Kansas; four grandchildren, Cody and Haley Haines and Alexis and Landon Rohr; two brothers Roger (and wife Sharon) Boyd and Eddie (and wife Darla) Boyd both of Oakley, Kansas. She also leaves sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Linda was a really great sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. She will be sincerely missed by everyone.
