Lisa Loy Shipley was born December 31, 1954 at Decatur County Hospital, Oberlin, Kansas, and passed away May 25, 2015 at Great Bend Regional Hospital in Great Bend, Kansas at 60 years of age from a heart attack. She was the daughter of Gerald Leo and Della Jean (Bainter) Shipley.
She grew up on a farm southeast of Jennings, Kansas and attended grade school and high school at Jennings and Special Ed. Classes in Norton. She graduated with the Jennings High School class of 1974. She was baptized into the Baptist Church in Hoxie in her early 20's.
Lisa lived in Great Bend and attended Rosewood Services for the last 20 years, where she had many friends and colleagues. While living there, she worked at Pizza Hut, in housekeeping, at the Furniture Gallery and did computer work.
When visiting her mother at Hoxie, Lisa looked forward to playing pinochle with residents of Ridgewood Manor, especially Dorothy Richards and Sylvia Thomas who always made sure she got to play cards. Her mother would visit Lisa every other week in Great Bend when her health would allow it. Her Mom would make sure she was home for a visit on every holiday. Lisa always looked forward to her visits at home, but was often ready to go back to "her home" a day earlier than planned.
Survivors include her mother, brothers Gary and Roberta Shipley, and Ron and Mary Shipley, all of Hoxie; one sister Lynnette and Butch Whelchel of Gaylord, Kansas; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends, including some very special friends at Rosewood in Great Bend. Lisa will be greatly missed by family and many friends.
Lisa was preceded in death by her dad in 1983; grandparents, Raymond and Ella Shipley and Roy and Bessie Bainter.
There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the Hoxie United Methodist Church with Pastor Cyd Stein and Pastor Doyle Smith officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Hoxie Cemetery. Arrangements made by Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley, Kansas. Memorials may be given to the Lisa Shipley Memorial Fund.
A memorial service will also be held at the Memorial Garden at Rosewood in Great Bend on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at 11:00 a.m.
