Lois Catherine
Koster Davis
June 23, 1928 – December 30, 2018
Lois Catherine Koster Davis, age 90, of Hoxie, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 30, 2018. She passed away at the Logan County Hospital, Oakley. She was born on June 23, 1928 in rural Menlo, Thomas County, to Roy and Fern (Hopkins) Hatten. Lois married Nick Koster, Jr. "Fritz" on April 14, 1948 in Seguin, and James "Jim" Davis on May 28, 1977 in Hoxie.
After graduating from high school in Menlo, Lois attended Brown-Mackie Business School in Denver and later worked for the KXXX radio station in Colby. With her children in middle school and high school, she was employed as the secretary and bookkeeper for Producers in Hoxie and worked many years. She was always a happy, outgoing lady. She and Fritz enjoyed friends, dancing, playing cards, and bowling. Living on the farm as the farmer's wife, she did many of the usual things; cooking and sewing, baking, cleaning, getting the kids off to school, church, farm chores, community activities, and many other things. But at the same time, she and Fritz were teaching their kids and grandchildren much about religion, education, work ethic, responsibility, common sense, and much more about life, etc. She loved and thought a lot about her kids and later, when the grandchildren and great grandchildren came, she enjoyed seeing them as well. After she married Jim, they did a lot of traveling. Lois loved to sew, and made clothes for her daughters until they learned how. She always crocheted afghans for family and friends, and donated a lot of them to charities. Lois was an avid reader, and took her children to the library in Hoxie often, and took them swimming when she visited family in Hoxie.
She lived in Assisted Living in Hoxie before moving to the Logan County Manor in Oakley. She always enjoyed visiting with friends and family, and she really liked it when they brought her an occasional chocolate candy treat! Lois never knew a stranger, and opened many a conversation with "Do you know my kids?" Recently her biggest hobby was doing word searches by the hour! And she was great at them!
Lois was preceded in death by her husbands: Nick Koster, Jr. and Jim Davis; sister, Cleo Briery, and brother-in-law, Henry Ostmeyer, Jr.
Survivors include her sons, Harold Koster (Bridget) of Hoxie, Dan Koster (Dee) of Hays, Nick Koster, III (Marita) of Centennial, CO; daughters: Kathy Kennedy (Don) of Oakley, and Nancy Kiltz (Carl) of Salina; sister, Vesta Ostmeyer of Oakley, brother-in-law, Harm Briery of Hoxie, 16 grandchildren, and 45 great grandchildren, a great-great grandson; step children: Craig Davis (Donna) of Hutchinson, Terry Davis (Sheila) of Wichita, and Jill Davis of Broomfield, CO; 10 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
