Lois Lee Nickelson, age 83, was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend to many. She died peacefully on January 26, 2015 at Dignity Care Home in Salina, KS. She was born June 1, 1931 in Winona, KS to William and Nanna Gfeller. She graduated from Winona High School in 1949 and was valedictorian of her class. She attended college at Fort Hays for 1 year. She married Kenneth R. Nickelson on November 15, 1963 in Colby, KS; they were married for 49 years.
Lois and Kenny made their home on the farm south of Oakley in Logan County. She worked as head bookkeeper at Farmers State Bank in Oakley from 1950 to 1974. They also owned and operated Oakley Lanes in the 1970's and 80's. Lois enjoyed bowling, helping on the farm, the great outdoors, spending time with her grandkids, and as we all know her love of anything chocolate! Lois and Kenny did everything together until his passing from cancer in May, 2013.
Lois was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nanna Gfeller, husband Kenny, brothers Harold, Ralph, Don, and Chet, and sister Gladys Collins.
Surviving relatives include her son Stan and his wife Brenda of Salina, two grandchildren: Destinee and Dawson Nickelson, sisters Helen Boyd of Oakley, and Frieda Wickizer of Springfield, MO, and nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Lois was loved by her family and will be dearly missed. We know Mom (Lois) and Dad (Kenny) are hand-in-hand together again, watching over us from heaven.
