Marguerite Louise (Jolly) Walz departed this life on January 27, 2014, in the Logan County Hospital, Oakley, KS at the age of 89½ years.
Marguerite was born June 12, 1924 in Quinter, KS. She was the older of two children born to Marshall Sylvester Jolly and Inez Cleora (Earley) Jolly. On February 24, 1952, she was united in marriage to Eddie Adair Walz. To this union were born four children, Karla, Loretta, Sharon and Dale.
Most of Marguerite's life was spent in Oakley, KS. She graduated from Oakley High School in 1943 after which she attended Brown Mackie Business College in Salina, KS. Upon graduation Marguerite worked in the Agronomy Department on the Kansas State University campus in Manhattan, KS and began working on a degree in Music. After returning to Oakley, Marguerite was employed by Farmers State Bank until she met her sweetheart and settled down to raise a family.
Marguerite was a devoted wife and mother but always found time to serve the community in which she lived. She served her Lord in numerous capacities as a member of the Oakley Christian Church. She loved singing in the choir and frequently sang solos in worship. Marguerite was a member of Cameo Club, Rebekah Lodge, Garden Club, Sing Along Girls and Pinochle Club. For over 30 years Marguerite served on the board of Western Plains Arts Association and worked to share her love of the arts with people in northwest Kansas. She also served as Secretary for the Senior Citizen's Board in Oakley and could regularly be found assisting at the Center.
When Eddie purchased and operated Walz Mobil, Marguerite worked at his side as bookkeeper until Eddie's death on January 3, 1967. Other positions Marguerite held were daycare operator, Municipal Court Judge for the City of Oakley, storyteller at the Oakley Public Library and staff member at Fick Fossil Museum.
Preceding Marguerite in death were her parents; her husband, Eddie; and her brother, Keith Jolly. Marguerite is survived by her daughters, Karla (Claude) Lovell, Overland Park, KS; Loretta (Steve) Moore, Oakley, KS; Sharon (Paul) Scott, Highland Village, TX; and son, Dale Walz, Denver, CO. Also surviving her are six grandchildren, Christopher (Kate) Lovell, Wichita, KS; Ethan Lovell, Overland Park, KS; Rachael Moore, Lakewood, CO; Joel Moore, Cheyenne, WY; Sierra Scott, Ft. Worth, TX; and Hunter Scott, Kansas City, KS. Marguerite is survived by great grandsons, Hayden and Sterling Harrison, Lakewood, CO. She also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 1, 2014 at the Buffalo Bill Cultural Center, Oakley, Pastor Bob Kelly officiating, with the Final resting place in the Oakley Cemetery.
