Obituary

Marilyn E. Lee, age 83, passed away on August 4, 2013 at her home in Oakley. She was born on September 8, 1929 at her parents' home in Monument to Robert Andrew and Mary Caroline (Nickelson) Younkin. Marilyn grew up in Logan County and graduated from Monument High School in 1947. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack Lee, on August 3, 1947 at her parents' home. They had two children, Karen Ann and Jacqueline Jean. She was a lifelong resident of Monument and Oakley.

Marilyn was a homemaker and worked alongside Jack doing the farming and ranching. She stayed home to raise her daughters until they were in high school. She then went to work at Stetz's Five and Dime store in Oakley for a time, and then the Logan County Hospital where she was the office manager until she retired. She was a member of the Oakley United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, past board member of the Logan County Hospital, member of the Logan County Healthcare Foundation, Monument Mother's Club, Oakley Bridge Club, and the Cameo Club.

Though retired, Marilyn felt that healthcare was so vital to the community that she served for a time on the hospital board, and then later, until her death, on the Logan County Healthcare Foundation board.

Marilyn expressed her love through her cooking and sewing. She enjoyed baking and quilting and was very fond of gardening and was especially proud of her roses. But her greatest love was her family, which she considered you a part of -- if she knew you for longer than a few minutes.

Survivors include her daughter Karen and her husband Keith Reed of Monument, grandson Craig Reed and his wife Doris, also of Monument, and their children Corey, Tanner, Jake and Elliana; granddaughter Lisa and her husband JR Delzeit, also of Monument, and their children Nickolas, Emily, Jack and Ava; and foster sister Juanita Helsel of LaJunta, Colorado. She also leaves sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends. She will be sincerely missed by her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert "Bob" and Mary, husband Jack (2005), daughter Jacqueline Lee (1997), and her brothers: Robert, Alvin, Floyd, and Harvey Younkin.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Oakley United Methodist Church with Pastor Sheryl Johnson officiating. Interment followed in the Oakley Cemetery. Visitation was on Thursday, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Oakley United Methodist Church, and Friday 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church.

Memorials in her name may be designated to the Logan County Healthcare Foundation, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and the Oakley United Methodist Women in care of Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, P.O. Box 221, Oakley 67748. www.kennedykosterfh.com
