Muriel Vivian Harrison, age 100, passed away on July 17, 2013 at the Clermont Park Care Center in Denver.
She was born March 30, 1913 in Ogallah, Kansas to Lawrence and Ella (Gunckel) Ruppe. She was a lifelong resident of Oakley, and married Cleal "Dode" Harrison on May 29, 1933 in Belleville, Kansas. Muriel was both wife and mother, fully occupied caring for 3 children and home. She was employed as a conservation program consultant with the ASCS Office in Oakley from 1961 to 1971.
Muriel was a member of the Oakley United Methodist Church, past president of United Methodist Women, Cub Scouts den mother, member of the Oakley Planning Commission, Afternoon Club, Oakley Garden Club, Delphi Club, and the Sew and So Club. Muriel loved to work in the Second Time Around store. After retiring, the Harrison's traveled by motor home through the United States and Canada for a few years. In 1982 they purchased a home in Weslaco, Texas and began wintering there for several years. At age 99, Muriel had her painting "Birds and Bloom" selected for Memories in the Making auction to support the Alzheimer's Association.
Survivors include her son Tad Harrison, and his wife, Corla, of Centennial, CO; her daughter Ann Durham, and her husband Gene, of Boise, ID; sisters Faune Futral of Port Barre, LA, and Maysel Vogler, and husband Vic, of Monument, KS; her four grandchildren, Kinon Durham and her husband, Jason Nowak; Craig Durham and his wife, Leslie; Todd Harrison and his wife Victoria; and Tyler Harrison and his wife Wendy; and five great grandchildren; Chloe, Kate, Aden, Christopher, and Tristan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Ella, husband Cleal (2006), son Jay (1946), and two brothers, Kenneth Ruppe and Melvane Ruppe.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 3rd, at 2 p.m. at the Oakley United Methodist Church. Pastor Sheryl Johnson will officiate the service. Inurnment will be at the Oakley Cemetery in a private service for the family.
