Obituary

Rodney Eugene "Rod" Davis, age 63, of Dighton, passed away September 5, 2014 at the Hays Medical Center. He was a retired meat inspector for the State of Kansas.

He was born September 7, 1950 in Colby at the Thomas County Hospital to Glen and Dorothy (Rhea) Davis of Oakley.

He graduated from Oakley High School in 1968. He attended Colby Community Junior College and Kansas State University.

In 1972, Rodney married Trudy Weed in Brewster, KS. They later divorced. On June 12, 2010 he married Marcia Bates at Dighton. She survives. In May of this year, he gratefully celebrated 26 years of sobriety in AA.

Rodney is also survived by a daughter, Angela Davis of Chandler, Arizona; three sons: James (Heidi) Davis of Benson, Minnesota, Johnathan Davis of Norton, KS and Jacob Davis of Mesa, Arizona; three grandchildren: Graci Davis of Norton, and Avery and Adam Davis of Benson, Minnesota.

He is also survived by his parents, Glen and Dorothy of Oakley, and his sister Sheryl (Tom) Giessel of Larned.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald; his paternal grandparents, Carl and Aetna Davis; his maternal grandparents John and Clara Rhea, and his uncle Eugene Davis.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the Oakley United Methodist Church on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Sheryl Johnson officiating. Inurnment will be in the Oakley Cemetery.
