Obituary

Rosalee June Pinkston, age 80, of Monument, passed away on November 17, 2014 at the Hynes Memorial Hospice Center in Wichita, Kansas. She was born on March 7, 1934 in Thomas County, Kansas to Gertrude C. (Kruse) and Henry John Beckman. She grew up north of Oakley and was a 1952 graduate of Oakley High School. Rosalee married Richard Nelson Pinkston on September 15, 1954 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Oakley. They moved to a farm eight miles west of Oakley. To this union, three children were born: Deborah Lynn, Richard Curtis, and Rhonda Lee.

Rosalee was a hard working, dedicated wife and mother who put her family first. She didn't sit down except to attend the monthly Monument Mother's club meetings. She enjoyed square dancing. She did a lot of gardening and canned everything from fruit to meat. She was known for her homemade noodles. On the farm, she milked cows, raised chickens, calves, pigs, horses and white geese along with dogs and many cats. Every summer, she dressed chickens to freeze for the family and to sell to friends. She also dressed any wildlife brought home from a hunt. She sold fresh milk and eggs to several people in the community. During wheat harvest, she was on call to drive the grain truck.

In the spring of 2006, the farm and equipment were sold. She and Richard moved to Oakley to enjoy retirement. When Richard's health declined in 2011, they moved to Vintage Park, an assisted living community in Wichita, where she bloomed into a social butterfly. She stayed busy shopping, exercising, doing crafts, playing cards, bingo and dominos.

Rosalee was devoted to the Catholic Church, and attended mass at St. Joseph's Church in Oakley until moving to Wichita.

Rosalee was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Gertrude, husband Richard (2012), three brothers: Bert Beckman, Dorvan "Fat" Beckman, and toddler Willard Dean Beckman; and two sisters: Velma Wolf and Luetta Baalman.

Survivors include her three children: Deborah Moretz (Alan) of Lenoir, North Carolina, Richard "Rick" Pinkston of Alexandria, Virginia, and Rhonda Barley (Jeff) of Wichita, Kansas; her sisters: Pat Carpenter of Newalla, Oklahoma and Delores Herdt of Everett, Washington; and five grandsons: Ryan, Sean and Eian Moretz, Jacob Pinkston, and Preston Barley.

Funeral mass will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 with visitation from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., family will receive friends and share memories at 11:00 a.m., and rosary at 1:40 p.m., all at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Oakley.
