Obituary

Thelbert T. Boyd, age 86 years and 5 days, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Deseret Health and Rehab in Colby, Kansas.

Thelbert was born on January 7, 1927 to Roscoe and Pearl Boyd in Hays, Kansas. He grew up in western Kansas, attending school in Winona and Page City. He served 2 years in the US Army with the occupation forces in Germany. He worked 30 years as a US Postal Rural Route Carrier in Logan and Thomas counties.

He was baptized in the Christian faith, and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. His church and its organizations were the primary activities in Thelbert's life. He was also a church officer in various capacities over the years.

Thelbert was active in the Oakley community delivering Meals on Wheels, driving the public transportation van, being a board member of the Oakley Senior Center and working with the Oakley Lion's Club. Thelbert's hobbies included carpentry work, reading, bowling and visiting at the elevator.

Thelbert married Marian Peterson on August 3, 1958 in Page City. To this union were born two daughters, Esther and Carolyn. He was a devoted husband and caring father. Thelbert was preceded in death by his parents Roscoe and Pearl Boyd, his brothers Frances, Maurice, and Norman. He will greatly be missed by his wife Marian, daughters Esther and Carolyn along with husband Jon Loughmiller, his sisters Lenora and husband Bob Mullen of La Puente, California, Dora Ann Boyd of Denver Colorado, Mary Boyd of Denver Colorado, Norma and husband George Sturgeon of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Agnes and husband Bob Meier of Hays, Kansas, his brother Jim and wife Terri of Oakley, Kansas, and other family members, neighbors and other friends.

Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or to Deseret Health and Rehab in Colby.

He was born January 7, 1927 to Roscoe and Pearl (Mansfield) Boyd. He was a US Army veteran during the Korean War era, and was a postal carrier. Thelbert married Marian Peterson on August 3, 1958 in Page City.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Maurice Boyd, Norman Boyd, and Francis Boyd.

Survivors: his wife Marian of the home, daughters Esther Boyd of Kansas City, MO and Carolyn Boyd-Loughmiller of Denver, Co, brother Jim Boyd (Terri) of Oakley, sisters Dora Ann Boyd and Mary Boyd of Denver, Lenora Mullen of La Puente, CA, Norma Sturgeon of Lincoln, NE, and Agnes Meier of Hays.

Funeral service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 18 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Oakley with interment and military honors at Monument Township Cemetery. Visitation: 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Kennedy-Koster Funeral Home, Oakley.
